Youth Volunteers

826LA welcomes high school student volunteers, ages 16 and up, to support our programs that serve younger students. If you are interested in tutoring younger students in our programs, gaining professional experience, or if you are looking for a place to participate as part of a community service or work placement program, contact volunteerteam@826la.org for more information.

 Frequently Asked Questions

  • High school student volunteers are welcome to support our programs that serve younger students. These include our Write On! After School program, TNT Evening Tutoring, Field Trips with elementary and middle school classes, and Hammer Museum Workshops. High School student volunteers are not permitted to participate with the In-Schools program as this program caters to fellow high school students.

  • To complete a Live Scan background check, volunteers will need to provide a form of government photo identification. Accepted forms of government identification include state identification (including a driver’s license), a US passport, or a Permanent Residence card.

  • If you do not have a form of government identification, please have a parent/guardian be present with you at orientation to verify your identity.

  • Yes, absolutely. High school students involved in service learning programs with specific requirements should reach out to us at volunteerteam@826la.org prior to volunteering.

Attend a Volunteer Orientation.

During the Volunteering Orientation you’ll gain more information about 826LA and our programs, tips for being an effective volunteer, and more!

Complete a background check

via Live Scan fingerprinting service (you can learn more about our Live Scan process here). You will have the opportunity to complete your background check during your Volunteer Orientation with a Live Scan technician.
