826LA is a non-profit writing and tutoring organization dedicated to supporting students with their creative and expository writing, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. 826LA is part of a national network of 826 chapters, founded by educator Nínive Calegari and author Dave Eggers. 826 was named one of GOOD magazine’s “30 Places We Want to Work.”

Internships

Programs Internship
Description:
826LA is looking for interns who are passionate about education and our mission.
Interns will learn creative ways to engage youth from underserved communities, volunteer management, communications, and the ins and outs of an established educational non-profit through virtual and in-person platforms. The 826LA interns will support the day-to-day administrative functions of our organization as well as medium- and long-term capacity-building projects. We are looking for enthusiastic, professional, and dedicated individuals who are self-motivated team players with a strong sense of social justice.
General Requirements:
Commitment to a set schedule of a minimum of 15 hours a week 10-15 weeks
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong attention to detail and high level of organization
Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and Google Apps (Drive, Calendar, Gmail, etc.)
Desire to work in an organization with a strong spirit of social justice
Completion of a criminal background check, administered by 826LA
Experience with children a plus
Spanish language proficiency a plus

Additional Details
General working hours are Monday through Friday, 8am to 6pm.
We encourage potential interns to review their area of focus when applying, while also keeping in mind that one’s day-to-day duties will range in complexity and depth, and will be dictated by the organization’s needs.
We encourage students that require academic course credit to apply.
