Tuberculosis (TB) Test Instructions for
In-Schools Volunteers
All volunteers who wish to participate in ANY in-person opportunities on campus with our Los Angeles partner schools are required to submit a negative Tuberculosis (TB) test BEFORE you first volunteer, in accordance with LAUSD and the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health policy.
All we need is a signed copy of a physician/nurse/technician’s lab report (the “letter of clearance”) that states you do not have communicable tuberculosis.
If you received a TB test within the last 4 years you may forgo another test. Please reach out to your provider to obtain a letter of clearance. Letters of clearance are valid for 6 months from date of issue.

Recommended TB Test Locations:
YOUR OWN DOCTOR: This can be very convenient, especially if you already have a reason to make an appointment. If this is the route you want to take, make sure that the test is covered under your insurance plan.
LA COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH CENTER: Having your test performed at a free clinic ensures that it will be free of charge! However, the LA County Public Health Centers do not schedule appointments. You must walk-in to have your TB test done. After the procedure, you’ll be given a follow up appointment to check the results. These free clinics tend to be very crowded, so prepare yourself for a wait.

STUDENT HEALTH CENTER: College students may be fully or partially covered by their student health insurance plan. Call your student health center for more information on TB test coverage and services.
ST. JOHN’S WELLNESS CENTER: The St. John’s Wellness Center offers TB tests for only $5. Patients can call to schedule an appointment or walk-in during the hours of operation. Please note that St. John’s Wellness Center offers its services to individuals without health insurance (with the exception of MediCal and MediCare).

CVS Minute Clinic and Walgreens Clinics also provide TB tests at select locations. Please call to ensure they administer TB tests.
