Cultivating Creative Power
826LA is dedicated to unlocking and cultivating the creative power of writing for students ages 6 to 18, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. Through free programs like workshops, tutoring, and field trips, students find their voice, build confidence, and learn to express themselves creatively.

Our Programs
-
After School Tutoring
From Monday to Thursday, students attend 826LA for free tutoring in all subjects, receiving homework help and writing stories based on prompts.
-
Field Trips with 826LA
826LA’s Field Trips invite public school students to our writing labs for a morning of creativity, where they explore their imagination and hone writing skills.
-
Workshops
826LA’s Workshops connect students with artists, writers, and professionals to foster creativity and develop writing skills across subjects like flash fiction and playwriting.
-
In-Schools and Writers’ Rooms
Since not all students can visit 826LA’s writing labs, trained volunteers go into under-resourced public schools to provide one-on-one writing support.
-
College and Career Access
826LA’s College and Career Access Program helps students with college and scholarship applications through one-on-one guidance from trained volunteers.
-
Black Writers Initiative
Launched in 2022, the goal of this initiative is to increase the number of Black and African American students in our programming by 550 over three years.
