This August, you can try a new pizza at Mohawk Bend designed by 826LA students!

Our neighbors at Mohawk Bend in Echo Park invited members of our Youth Advisory Board to design a pizza to benefit 826LA. The Youth Advisory Board is a representative group of students who engage the community through events and provide leadership for programs.

Part of the restaurant’s “Piece of the Pie” program, $4 from the sale of each student-designed pizza this August will go back to 826LA to support free writing and literacy programs for kids.

After a pizza-making lesson with Chef Bryan, students took turns rolling out their dough and selecting sauces, cheeses, and toppings from among the restaurant’s many choices. Chef Bryan and his team fired up the students’ creations in Mohawk Bend’s pizza oven while students looked on. Students then evaluated the pizzas and voted on their favorites. After careful consideration (and much taste testing), one was the clear winner: a blend of prosciutto, caramelized onions, and parmesan created by sixteen-year-old Bryana! Called “Bry’s Special,” this pizza will be featured on Mohawk Bend’s menu for the entire month of August.

The Youth Advisory Board and 826LA thank Mohawk Bend for the opportunity to showcase our students’ talent and raise funds to support our programs. Last year, our Youth Advisory Board’s YAB Pizza broke a record and brought in $1,464 for 826LA’s programs. Want to try Bry’s Special and help us break our record? Stop by Mohawk Bend during the month of August and order a “Piece of the Pie”!
