Let Your 70s Show: Seeking Furniture & Decor for our New Writers’ Room

Help Decorate the Manual Arts High School Writers’ Room:
Seeking Mid-Century Furnishings & 60s/70s Decor

After two successful years at Manual Arts High School, 826LA is opening its first official Writers’ Room on its South LA campus! Opening September 1st, the Writers’ Room will be fully dedicated to our programs, providing a space for all of Manual Arts students to benefit from 826LA’s writing support.

True to 826 tradition, the space will have a special theme: and this is where you come in! Are you a flea market pro? Been embracing the KonMari Method? Got an attic full of funky furniture, knick knacks, or decor to spare? Help us create “That 70s Writer’s Room”! 

We’re seeking the following items in the theme of a Mid-Century modern, 60s & 70s aesthetic:

  • Couch
  • Arm chair
  • Narrow coffee table
  • Lamps
  • Round rug
  • Table runner
  • Pottery and vases
  • Bookends
  • Knick knacks
  • Framed art (Jackson Pollock, African American and Latino artists especially desired)
  • Frames
  • Vintage art books
  • Easy-to-take-care-of potted plants (extra points for macrame hangers!)

If you have something on this list that you’re willing to donate, please send a photo of the item(s) to Diana@826la.org by Monday, August 17.

Other items that will help us complete the room by September 1:

  • Pens, pencils, highlighters, lined paper, electric pencil sharpener
  • Microwave
  • Mini-fridge
  • Coffee maker and mugs
  • High school reading level books

There are more ways to support 826LA’s work at Manual Arts High School: To make a monetary contribution, you can donate through PayPal–in the “Honor” section please list the item(s) toward which you wish the money to go. Or, work one-on-one with students in the Writers’ Room by becoming an 826LA volunteer
