826LA’s inaugural “Constellation of Thanks” volunteer appreciation party

Celebrating our stellar volunteers with an evening of fun, food, and fresh haircuts!

What do volunteers have in common with constellations? Constellations are areas of the sky where stars form a pattern. At 826LA, our volunteers are a big part of our constellation, bringing our students together and helping them to shine bright every day. On May 12, 826LA celebrated and honored our superstar volunteers with our inaugural “Constellation of Thanks” volunteer appreciation party (formerly known as our “Centaur Club Party”) at the Movember Foundation in Culver City.

“It was a pleasure to spend time with other people with the passion and enthusiasm that I feel when I work with [826LA], and our students.”      —826LA volunteer

“Everything about [the party] was so lovely, from the warm greeting upon arrival, to the delicious food and drinks and desserts, to the great company of the staff and fellow volunteers, to the fun games and thoughtful video presentation….It’s an honor and a joy to volunteer at 826LA.”             —826LA volunteer[/ezcol_1half_end]With all parties come laughs, selfies, stories, delicious food, and of course, haircuts! At this spectacular event of thanks and appreciation, volunteers had the opportunity to meet other volunteers, mingle, and have an amazing time (even if there were no students in sight!).

We chowed down on delicious food from Kitchen Mouse (donated by 826LA volunteer and Kitchen Mouse owner Lee Seligmann!) and watched volunteers as they were were tested on their knowledge of their students, guessing how students would answer questions such as, “what are the volunteers afraid of?” From spiders to their bills, to even being awesome enough to be fearless volunteers, our students had a plethora of answers for the volunteers. Despite the grueling and challenging questions, all of our volunteers came home with a gift bag, because they truly are our volunteers extraordinaire.

In a night full of laughter and smiles, we got to the heartfelt ‘thank you’ video where students took the opportunity to say “thank you” to our volunteers.  826LA wouldn’t be 826LA without the help of our awesome volunteers, always coming in with enthusiasm and smiles for the students.

A huge 826LA thank you to Aesop, Blue BottleFort Point Beer, The Huntington, Kitchen Mouse, Knock Knock, LACMA, Movember Foundation, and Platine Bakery. Because of you all, this was quite the night to remember! Thank you!
