826LA isn’t the only one celebrating a 10th birthday this year. Our student, Jeovanny, who attends after-school tutoring in Echo Park, turned 10 on March 26. Asked what he wants to be when he grows up, he said, “I’m still thinking about it.” Jeovanny has an older brother who would help him with his homework before he started coming to 826LA, and has enjoyed being a part of the Barnacle’s Bookworms workshop on Saturday mornings because “you get to read a lot.” We talked with the birthday boy about his big day, and this is what Jeovanny had to say:

What did you do for your birthday?
We had chocolate cake at my house.

What do you want to do over the next 10 years?
Go to college.

Cake or ice cream?
Ice cream. Chocolate is my favorite.

Imagine you’re an old person. Finish the sentence. Back in my day . . .
I would ask for help with my homework.

What makes you happy?
When I get good grades at school.

What do you like to do for fun?
Play!

Why do you like coming to 826LA?
What I like about it is that tutors help me with my homework.
