We all know that great minds think alike. With that line of thinking, it’s no wonder Warby Parker, a purveyor of stylish eyewear, has joined forces with 826LA in the creation of an activity book and limited-edition sunglasses.
Starting today, activity book The Adventures of Super Awesome Stickman Dude ($12.99) is available for purchase in 826LA’s Time Travel Mart and Warby Parker retail stores in Los Angeles. Proceeds from the book go back to 826.
The aptly named Kidd glasses ($95) are sold separately (up to 826 of the frames are available) at in L.A. Warby Parker stores and online at warbyparker.com.
The Adventures of Super Awesome Stickman Dude was compiled by students of 826LA’s field trips program, and is a digest of prompts and projects for kids (and kids at heart) to fill in. In it, readers will find such enchanting tales as Octobunny & Tina: The Battle and Mr. Banana Chocolate & Bandy’s Amazing Adventure to the Top of Banana Mountain, and will be treated to a foreword by grumpy-but-beloved publisher Mr. Barnacle.
“Holding this book in hand, you get a taste of the pleasure that these students experience on a daily basis at 826LA,” Executive Director Joel Arquillos and Programs & Operations Manager Kristin Lorey write in the book’s introduction. “. . . We at 826LA would like to extend a humongous thanks to the student authors who were not afraid to share their ideas, write, and be published in a book, as well as the teachers who brought their classes in and set an example of creativity, writing, and joy for their students.”
Our counterparts at 826NYC are also releasing optical versions of the Kidd frames in Revolver Black, each engraved with a limited-edition number up to 826, and The Review, featuring poems, short stories, and essays contributed by their program visitors.
