Tuesday & Thursday Night Tutoring – Mar Vista
Tuesday and Thursday Night Tutoring is for students who are 12 to 18 years old. We provide a space where middle and high school students from the Mar Vista community can receive assistance with all sorts of homework from volunteer tutors. Students also deepen their writing skills by participating in one-on-one writing workshops facilitated by volunteers. At these writing sessions, students brainstorm, draft, and revise their writing with the guidance and encouragement of a volunteer.

A spin-off of the workshop classic “Writing For Pets,” workshop students will become resident botanists for a day in “Writing For Plants.” Students will observe, chart, and write an imagined history of 826LA’s most bizarre, rare, and beautiful plants. This self-portrait workshop is an opportunity for students to express themselves while creating art for them by them. They will be brainstorm, write and discuss methods of self-expression while focusing on influential, female artists known for self-portraits. Each participant will create their own watercolor or collage self-portrait inspired by their own photographs. This workshop will be led by Demi Corso. Demi Corso is an artist and mentor from Los Angeles. She believes in empowering young people through art and self-expression.
