Tuberculosis (TB) Clearance Instructions
for In-Schools Volunteers
All volunteers who wish to participate in ANY in-person opportunities on campus with our LAUSD partner schools are required to submit clearance of Tuberculosis (TB) from a licensed health care provider BEFORE you first volunteer, in accordance with LAUSD and the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health policy.
Volunteers must submit one of the following:
- A completed Adult Tuberculosis Risk Assessment Form administered by a health care provider verifying no TB risk factors.
- A negative Tuberculosis skin test and the date results were obtained.
- A negative Interferon-Gamma Release Assays (IGRA) blood test and the date results were obtained.
- A negative chest x-ray and the date it was read. (Chest x-ray results will only be accepted with documented proof of a previous positive TB test).
TB clearances are valid for 4 years. If you completed any of these forms of TB clearance within the last 4 years, please reach out to your health care provider to obtain records of your TB clearance.

Recommended TB Test Locations
Your Own Doctor
This can be very convenient, especially if you already have a reason to make an appointment. If this is the route you want to take, make sure that the test is covered under your insurance plan.
LA County Public Health Center
Having your test performed at a free clinic ensures that it will be free of charge! However, the LA County Public Health Centers do not schedule appointments. You must walk-in to have your TB test done. After the procedure, you’ll be given a follow up appointment to check the results. These free clinics tend to be very crowded, so prepare yourself for a wait.

Student Health Center
College students may be fully or partially covered by their student health insurance plan. Call your student health center for more information on TB test coverage and services.
John’s Wellness Center
The St. John’s Wellness Center offers TB tests for only $5. Patients can call to schedule an appointment or walk-in during the hours of operation. Please note that St. John’s Wellness Center offers its services to individuals without health insurance (with the exception of MediCal and MediCare).

Drugstore Clinics
CVS Minute Clinic and Walgreens Clinics also provide TB tests at select locations. Please call to ensure they administer TB tests.
