This May, the awesome designer, author, and 826LA Advisory Board member Stefan G. Bucher came back to 826LA to beautify our Time Travel Mart in Echo Park once again! Stefan and a few dedicated volunteers braved the rain to paint an amazing new mural with the 826LA logo on our Echo Park Time Travel Mart storefront gate.
An old friend of 826LA, Stefan was first brought in by former 826LA Executive Director Mac Barnett to design 826LA’s Travel Mart in Echo Park. Stefan also designed products like the Time Travel Mart classics Robot Milk, Communist Soap and the TK Brand™ product line.
Ever wanted to hone your street art/design skills and paint your own mural? Here’s our step-by-step guide as followed by Stefan:
Step 1: Choose a storefront gate that you can legally paint.
Step 2: Create gigantic stencils to create said mural design. Be sure to take a photo.
Step 3: Check the weather. Make sure you do NOT paint on the one rainy day of the year in Los Angeles.
Step 4: Take photos of your progress.
Step 5: Call all your friends. Convince them to help you paint.
Step 6: Paint for two full days straight. Finish painting at 11:30pm at night.
Step 7: Take a photo in front of the finished product, as demonstrated by 826LA Executive Director Joel Arquillos 🙂
Step 8: Bask in all the beautiful mural glory!
The sincerest of thank yous to Stefan for his creativity, vision, and love for 826LA! And a big thank you to all the folks who came out to help paint to make this two-day mural project possible! Sunset Boulevard has never looked so good…
Check out more of Stefan’s work on his website and Instagram. And be sure to visit the Time Travel Mart to see the new gate!
