Stacey’s “My Wishes – Age 11” from “Street Lights Are Replaced With Gummy Bears”

Screen Shot 2015-06-30 at 3.43.43 PMMy first wish would be candy. My second wish would be to win a science award and become a candy-maker. I would pick this because I love candy and want to learn how to make it for myself. I’d make jawbreakers, ice candy, and candy canes. The science award would be for making inventions and being the best! The last wish I’d ask would be to become a candy maker because I’d be able to make any candy I want. I would own a candy store and a chocolate store. I could ask for anything else, I’d ask for a roller coaster park, so I could live there and even make roller coasters too. Those are the only wishes I would ask if it was only what I really wanted. If I could ask for more, I’d ask these: 1. Science Award, 2. Candy, 3. Candy maker, 4. Roller Coaster Park, 5. Free Coaster Building, 6. Make all my books come alive, 7. Have a cat, 8. Cats could speak to me and come alive like people.

That’s the only list I’d ask, but for real, I’d love a kitten that would talk and grant me wishes. The wishes might come true sometimes, and sometimes they might now. If my friends were to ask, all their wishes would come true. I want to know why my wishes don’t come true.

This story was an excerpt from Street Lights are Replaced with Gummy Bears, written by students of 826LA’s After-School Tutoring program in Echo Park. In it, you’ll learn why kids love 826LA so much: the tutors, the help with writing, the friendships, the help with homework, but mostly, the snacks. Explore a book filled with curious questions, letters, goals and best of’s.
