Meet Vince: 826LA Alumnus and Time Traveler Extraordinaire

“I wanted to stick with 826LA as long as I could because I basically grew up with 826LA.” -Vince

Vince is a former 826LA Youth Advisory Board student and published author who now works at 826LA’s Echo Park Time Travel Mart.

Did you know?

We’re lucky to have seen Vince time-travel for many years.

Vince first joined 826LA’s tutoring program in 2013 when he was ten years old. There, he met life-long friends, discovered a deeper appreciation for reading through writing, and a passion for social justice.

“Growing up, I really liked reading and [at] 826LA that I learned that I can grow to love reading even more through writing–something I would not have been exposed to in school,” said Vince.

826LA is not just a writing organization, it’s a lifestyle

One thing we’re lucky to see a lot is 826LA students wanting to return to 826LA as interns, volunteers, and even staff–even after they’ve graduated high school and gone on to new time-traveling adventures.

“I wanted to stick with 826LA as long as I could because I basically grew up with 826LA…since I was ten years old,” said Vince.

Not wanting to leave 826LA behind quite yet, Vince similarly sought out opportunities to work for and give back to 826LA.

“I’ve wanted to work for 826 as a part of the intern staff or shop staff for the past three years. In the last week of 2019, I applied for a job at the Time Travel Mart, but by that time, someone had already filled the position. Luckily, Carinne approached me and asked if I could cover some shifts. I was so excited.”
