“Get More Learning:” Students Run For President

What if students ran for president?

During After-School Tutoring in Mar Vista, students had the chance to think about the future of their world, draft campaign goals, and write their own slogans. Ranging from big-picture issues like immigration and education to topics like homework and candy, their writing is thought-provoking, fantastical, hilarious, and poignant. Every presidential campaign is a reflection of the imaginative power of each student and their endless ability to inspire hope. While the future is at times scary to imagine, one thing is for certain — we’re in good hands.

We are 826LA and we approve this message.

I want to hear from you.
“I really feel strongly that University education should be free! I want to do this because education is important and not everyone can afford it. First I will go to my office and work hard by going to meetings and convincing them to accept my law.”

One at a time.
“Campaign goal #1: No homework. Kids will love me.
Campaign goal #2: Eliminate Mondays. Mondays are boring.
Campaign goal #3: Giving immigrants passports. We are all equal.

P.S. Making world peace.”

Angel, The Dream.
“My first campaign goal is to open borders because people are walking miles to give a better life to their kids. I will let people into America. My second campaign goal is same pay for each gender. It’s not fair. Just by being the opposite gender doesn’t mean you’re different. I will tell every company manager to give equal pay to males and females.”

We can believe in Stephanie.
“1. Get more learning.
2. One candy a week.
3. You can be late to anything and no one gets mad.
4. No sadness.”

Together, The Better.
“Dear Fairies, My name is Emily and I am running for Nature Queen of Butterfly Land. I want it to be Friday and Saturday because that’s when everyone has fun. I want all fairies to take care of my insects pets because I want my pets to be healthy.”

“My goal is to make street drain holes smaller so plastic bags don’t travel into the ocean and animals don’t get killed. I know you will trust me in keeping the country safe. I will accomplish this by talking on a podium with a great and loud voice.”
