Evelyn’s “I Want a Sister (And and iPhone)” from “Our Mascot Means Brave and Courage”

Screen Shot 2015-07-08 at 12.21.24 PMI want to have a little sister so I could play with her. And so I could carry her and so I could show her how to talk. If I had an iPhone, I would play the iPhone so she could call me all of the time. I would call her to tell my mom to pick me up. Or I would call my mom or dad. I could call my friend, Elasia, or my friend in school. I would call them every day. My friend Elasia spies on me when I am outside, but I do not spy on her. Sometimes I talk to her through the window. I could talk to my friend, Laura. Will I get an iPhone? I wish I had a sister, but the thing I do not want to ever ever ever ever do is change her diaper.

This story was an excerpt from Our Mascot Means Brave and Courage, written by the students of 826LA’s After-School Tutoring program in Mar Vista. While reading this collection, you will step inside the neighborhoods, schools, worlds, and minds of the students of 826LA.
