Staff of 826LA's Good Times.

Staff of 826LA's Good Times.

Another session of the 826LA journalism workshop began on Monday. Our staff of diligent young writers put the inaugural edition of the Good Times: Food Edition to bed and immediately began working on the second issue.

But how can you top writing about food? Who doesn’t like food!?

So we looked a bit closer to home this time, and editors and staff of the Good Times decided to focus the next edition on home: Echo Park, that is. We’re covering the people and places of EP and surrounding areas, the history, the tidbits of our own backyard.

Here’s what our staff writers have selected for their topics:
> Alex and Alanis are going to team up to look into the history of Dodger Stadium and the Dodgers.

> Oscar wants to interview police officer(s) from the neighborhood and ask questions like “What do they mostly do?” “Where do they hang out?” “Why they like being police?” “And where do they eat?”

> Lauren says, “I am writing about the Victorian Houses of Angeleno Heights because they are exquisite and unique, and I have always wondered what was in them. For this story I will talk to people who live in them, an architect, and jealous people like maybe the neighbors. I will find out how long they’ve lived there, how long it takes to built a house like that, and how big is the back yard.”

Interested in joining the Good Times staff? Then stop by Monday nights from 7-8:30 pm!

The Food Edition has arrived -- online and in print!

The Food Edition has arrived -- online and in print!

Sorry it’s been a while since we’ve posted, but we promise to blog more often, so keep checking back for updates and comments.  The kids from the journalism workshop have been very busy behind the scenes, and they’ve worked really hard on this first issue of the Echo Park Good Times – The Food Edition. This inaugural print issue is dedicated to one of our favorite subjects: food.

In this food issue, the budding journalists interview the night manager from Rodeo Mexican Restaurant on Sunset (right across the street from 826LA Echo Park) and reviewed several of the restaurant’s items. They also had a chance to sample and write about the new hip and hot pizza place Two Boots. Other staff writers tackle subjects like the ice cream truck outside of the Eagle Rock Public Library, junk food and nutrition.

So may we suggest that you have a snack handy when you peruse the Food Edition…because if you’re not hungry before reading, we guarantee you will be after!
