It gives me great joy to report that 826LA’s 3rd Annual Great Los Angeles Personal Statement Weekend helped 227 students get one-on-one support from nearly 200 volunteers this past weekend! The event, as has become custom, was held on the campus of West Adams High School, an LA’s Promise school. Over an entire weekend, students from Roosevelt, Manual Arts, West Adams, and Marshall High School got over four hours a day of undivided attention on their college essays. Here’s what a few of them had to say:
“Sometimes I had a difficult time wording my ideas and thinking of what to write about. The tutor helped me organize my thoughts.” – Simon Guzman, West Adams
“I felt more confident in myself. Not only was I encouraged, but I was also successful in finishing my prompts!” – Celeste Huizar, Roosevelt
We want to thank our amazing sponsors for making this event possible and for keeping us fed: Trader Joes, Izzie Sparkling Juice, Pop Chips. And a huge thanks to LA’s Promise and our corporate sponsor, Chase Bank.
