It’s time to empower our future writers, activists, and community members. Our Eight Annual Great LA Personal Statement Weekend is on the horizon, and you are needed to help 200 high school seniors increase their chances at gaining admission to their dream colleges.
Whether you’ve attended past Great LA Personal Statement Weekends or have never volunteered with 826LA before, our students need your help. You’ll spend the day working one-on-one with a student to listen to their story and help shape their life experiences into responses that reveal the student’s incredible dedication and character.
When: Sat., November 18, 10am to 3pm & Sun., November 19, 10am to 3pm
Where: Manual Arts High School
Who: 200 LAUSD high school seniors + 200 826LA volunteers (that’s you!)
What: One-on-one writing support as students finish college application essays
How: Every volunteer for this event must attend 826LA’s Navigating the New UC Essay Training.
All volunteers who participated in a 2016 or 2017 826LA training according to the new University of California overhauled personal statement section of the college application do not have to get retrained for this year’s GLAPSW. You are all set to volunteer for the 2017 GLAPSW.
If you haven’t already been trained in the updated UC Personal Insight Questions, you need to sign up for a training and sign up to volunteer for the weekend so we know we can count on your attendance.
You can volunteer for either one or both days.
Still need to attend a training?
If you’re an official 826LA volunteer and have yet to attended a training, you’re almost ready to help a student with their personal statement!
Go to the Projects Calendar to sign up for one of the remaining trainings.
