Supporting 826LA in a fun and quirky way!

826LA’s Youth Advisory Board or YAB is a group of diverse, literary motivated, and fun-loving 826LA students between the ages of 14 and 18. Its members focus on community building and partnerships, volunteering, youth mentoring, and supporting 826LA in various activities like putting on fun and quirky fundraisers.

During the Mar Vista Art Walk on November 24th, YAB put on their first event of the school year: Fun, Food, and a Fantastic Film. They invited community members to our Mar Vista Writing Lab for a Winnie the Pooh themed movie night. The film, Christopher Robin played for guests as they participated in Winnie the Pooh art and crafts and munched on good food donated and sold by the families of our YAB members. 30 families, volunteers, and students gathered for the fun and, in total, fundraised  $120 for the night. YAB members, Nadia, Nassim, Vanessa, Katherine, Micheal, and Mirna thanked and Introduced themselves to guests after the event.

On December 8th, 826LA participated in the Echo Park Shop Hop during the Echo Park Community Parade. Six members tabled outside the Time Travel Mart and served as ambassador, telling the community about our mission. Time Travel Mart customers were able to get their purchased items personally gift wrapped for a loved one by a trusted YAB member. Every donation made that day went towards 826LA’s free writing programs.
