826LA to Attend the 10th Annual Leimert Park Village Book Fair!

On Saturday August 20th, 826LA will be attending the 10th Annual Leimert Park Village Book Fair! This will be our first time participating in this event and we are thrilled to be a part of this celebration of books, reading, and writing. We will be tabling in historic Leimert Park, which for many generations, has been known to be the center of African American arts and music in Los Angeles.

This highly anticipated event is a community tradition that was inspired ten years ago by Executive Producer, Cynthia’s Exum’s grandmother. “I envisioned a Book Fair as a homage to my grandmother who encouraged my love of reading as a child,” Cynthia says, “When she passed away, I wanted to give back to the community and do something in her memory that would make a difference. And that’s how the idea of the book fair was born.”

Please visit our 826LA table to get more information on how to volunteer in our programs or on internships available at our three sites. You will also get a chance to read through our student publications, featuring young authors from across Los Angeles. We hope you will join us and the community of Leimert Park to celebrate their 10th Anniversary!
